Meaningful and Relevant Technology Integration
Music technology is pervasive in today’s music classrooms but, in many settings, it is the teacher who designs the integration, often with standardized learning outcomes in mind. As learners and teachers navigate these new experiences, teachers must develop environments in which learner/musicians have voice in the design process and agency in their own learning. New genres and digital instruments have played integral roles in extending the definition of what it is to be a musician. In the context of listening, performing and creating experiences, providing opportunities for learners to create music using emerging technologies produces a classroom culture where musicians become autonomous in their approach to showing their musical understanding. The technology and the learning become ubiquitous, transparent, and constantly evolve.
