Faculty Development in and through the Use of ICT

Governmental and institutional policies in many countries currently encourage the use of technology at all educational levels. Post-secondary music education has not escaped from these demands and faculty members are expected to fully embrace the use of technology to improve teaching and their professional practice. In Mexico, while universities have emphasized providing technological infrastructures and faculty development programs in and through the use of ICT, this goal has not been fully met, particularly in music and music education programs. This chapter provides a general overview of the challenges that need to be overcome in order to fully embrace the technological era and the current professional and technological development needs of university professors. It also describes a technology-enhanced professional development program conceived to provide continuous learning opportunities in post-secondary music education that has resulted into an international partnership and the development of communities of practice.
